An Update from the Scaredy-Cat: How are you?

Hi everyone! Happy Star Wars Day. An update from me: I apologize that it has been a while since I’ve posted. I’ve been quite busy due to an influx of online students for my position as a remote English teacher.

With the pandemic, it might be difficult to imagine a time that we will be able to explore the world again. My own daydreaming of travel has taken a backburner to more immediate matters, though travel has been a big theme in my dreams lately. My subconscious has been especially focused on Alaska for some reason.

I’ve been having some rough days even though I’ve been trying to keep to my structured schedule. Some days, it’s just not possible. Instead, I spend the day playing on my phone and then look back and have no idea where the time has gone. And that’s okay, too.

Thankfully, as the weather is becoming milder here in Pittsburgh (with plenty of rain as usual), I’ve been taking the opportunity to explore my neighborhood more, walking down new streets, learning about which houses have the prettiest gardens (or cleverest use of gnomes, as in the featured photo). Some of my friends have been taking advantage of all the explore-from-home options online, with virtual visits to museums and parks around the world. Others have been taking the opportunity to visit local hiking trails they’ve never been to.

How have you been getting your “travel” fix in the last few weeks? I’d love to hear in the comments.

I will be uploading a new travel-focused post in *fingers crossed* a day or two to finally discuss bus travel in Peru. Until then, stay safe and healthy!

Melanie

  1. I’ve been exploring (safely, socially distantly) the green spaces in the city, trying to make the familiar into something new as much as I can!

    1. That’s a great idea. Now’s the perfect time to set our exploratory sights on something that’s so easy to overlook: our own cities!
